Who seeks a psychological evaluation?

Many people seek an evaluation when something feels off but they can't quite name it. Common reasons include:

• You've been in therapy for a while but feel stuck, or aren't sure the diagnosis fits

• You received a diagnosis years ago that never felt quite right

• You've never been formally evaluated and want a clearer picture of what's going on

• A medication isn't working as expected and you want to understand why

• You need documentation for school, work, disability, or another purpose

• You're facing a major life decision and want objective information to guide it

No referral is required — individuals can self-schedule directly.

What a psychological evaluation can help clarify

Evaluations can provide diagnostic clarity across a wide range of presentations, including:

• ADHD and attention difficulties in adults

• Depression, bipolar disorder, and mood dysregulation

• Autism spectrum conditions (ASD) in adults

• Personality disorders (borderline, narcissistic, avoidant, and others)

• Anxiety disorders, OCD, and trauma-related conditions (PTSD)

Each evaluation is tailored to the specific question being asked.

What the evaluation involves

Clinical Interview
A structured interview provides an opportunity to discuss psychological history, current concerns, and relevant life experiences.

Psychological Testing
Standardized psychological tests may be administered to assess personality functioning, emotional symptoms, cognitive functioning, or other psychological domains.

Record Review
When appropriate, relevant records may be reviewed to provide additional context.

Written Report
A written report summarizes the findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and clinical recommendations. The report becomes part of your medical record and can be shared with treating providers, used for documentation, or kept for your own reference.

Fees

Psychological evaluations are priced between $1,200 and $2,500, depending on the complexity and scope of testing required.

Health insurance does not cover psychological evaluations. Payment is due at the time of service. A superbill can be provided upon request for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

The full written report is typically delivered within 2–3 weeks of the final session.

How this is different from therapy?

Therapy is an ongoing treatment relationship — sessions continue week to week as you work through challenges and build new skills. A psychological evaluation is a one-time diagnostic process: it is time-limited, structured, and designed to answer a specific clinical question.

People sometimes come to an evaluation because therapy alone hasn't been sufficient — they want to understand the underlying diagnosis before continuing treatment. Others seek an evaluation first, to get clarity before starting therapy. The two services are complementary, not competing.

Dr. Felleman does not provide ongoing therapy. If you are looking for therapy, he is happy to provide a referral following the evaluation.
